blogger interview: 9 questions for alissa
Welcome to my first fellow blogger interview! I decided it might be fun to ask some questions of my favorite bloggers and share the responses here. It’s a great way to discover great blogs to read! I chose Alissa at The Grammarian’s Reviews as my first interview because she has been absolutely fantastic lately as a first reader for my current WIP. She has been so helpful in developing the characters, figuring out the plot, and catching my silly awkward wording mistakes. And so, without further adieu, on to the interview!
Blog: The Grammarian’s Reviews
Started Blogging: July 26, 2010
Her Favorite Blog Post to Date: Without a doubt, my review for The Half-Life of Planets, which was definitely my favorite 2010 read.
Tell us a little about yourself.
As it says above, I’m Alissa. A young 20-something, aspiring editor and wannabe grammarian. Full-time English major, reader and writer. Total foodie and coffee addict. Wants to traverse to England.
Five adjectives that describe you.
Indecisive. Nerdy. Comical. Spunky. Talkative.
Why did you start blogging?
I’ve always been a voracious reader. More than voracious. And I’ve always wanted to write – stories, articles, anything. Take that and add me discovering the book blogging world, and bam! I created a place where I can discuss what I enjoy most: reading and writing.
What can someone find if they drop by your blog?
The cutest little header they ever did see! Kidding.
They can find nifty tips to improve their grammar. I call them Grammar Bits.
And of course, reviews of both YA and Adult fiction books.
What are the three books you’d take with you if stranded on a deserted island?
Impossible to choose!
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is a must. Then perhaps Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, and Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt.
I’d also have to squeeze in the Harry Potter series somewhere. Can’t be without my Draco, now can I?
You feature photos you’ve come across on the internet sometimes — what’s your favorite that you’ve found?
I’m a total sucker for photography, and love browsing through pictures online. But I can’t just choose one favorite.
Name two blogs you read every day.
Yours! …No, seriously. This, and your food blog. Again, total foodie speaking.
But, if you’re out of the running for these two spots, then I’d have to say the following:
- Bibliophilic Monologues, run by Nafiza. That girl is awesome with words and her reviews are spot-on.
- i swim for oceans, run by Melissa. She’s always got something going on over at her blog. Always. And she always takes the time to return comments. I like that dedication.
What’s your favorite grammar rule?
If you can substitute he/she, then it’s who. If you can substitute him/her, then use whom.
It’s my favorite because no one can seem to get it right, and I like passing this along in hopes of a chain reaction so people will learn from their mistake.
What advice do you have for other bloggers?
Be honest. I see so many bloggers post about their worries over a negative review. Don’t worry – stick to how you feel, even if it’s a book the majority like/dislike.
And it’s not about the number of followers you have. To be perfectly cliché, it’s quality over quantity.
Thank you, thank you to Alissa for the interview and for providing the accompanying photos! I definitely read her blog every day, and I think you should too. She’s right about quality over quantity — her grammar bits always make me laugh and rethink what I think I know about grammar, and her book reviews are insightful. I trust her to make a recommendation for my reading list! Now that you know a little more about Alissa, you should head over to her blog and say hi!
