I have several book reviews to write up, but I seem to be spending more time reading or playing Pirates of the Caribbean Online or going out to eat and such. I’ve neglected my food blog. Mostly, this is because I’m not cooking much. Or at least, not cooking anything that’s not from a can or a box.

However, in its neglect, I have started in on one of my 2011 goals: to get back into Project365, a photo of the day project. You can follow my progress at my PHOTOBLOG.

So in the spirit of 365 my new photoblog, I am asking for your help. I want you to think of things that you want me to take a photo of. My cat, my bookshelf, my bed, my handwriting, the view across the street, the subway, etc. etc. Think of something you want to see (or multiple somethings!) and I’ll go do a photo scavenger hunt and report back! Please!

Here it is: what should I take a photo of for you?

  • it’s almost 2011

I don’t really like making New Year’s resolutions, mostly because I have never been able to keep them. That doesn’t really keep me from making them. It’s just that I’d rather call them 2011 goals or, even better, “things I’d like to try and do in the new year.”

  • central park in photos

I live very close to Central Park, which is fantastic, really, because in a city the size of New York, it’s really helpful to have a lot of green nearby. Of course, I understand very well that that green is going to be turning to reds and oranges and yellows and beautiful fall colors very soon before turning brown and gray and dead. So until then, I’m enjoying the green. This first series of 3 photos are from a Saturday morning I spent alone reading in part of the park near where I live.

    Self-Portrait

    a self-portrait

I have a great new camera. My parents gave it to me for Christmas, and I love it. I’ve already taken a lot of fantastic photos and learned a lot about photography by using it. In fact, I’d love to use it even more.

Here’s the thing — I didn’t have anything exciting to take photos of 2 weeks ago when I was living at home. I would take the camera everywhere and never take a photo because nothing was exciting. I had my cats and the books I was reading and lazing about watching movies to take photos of.

  • a sorta-summer photo

    summer swimming

This photo didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted it to. I blame that on the fact that I was treading water, couldn’t fiddle with the settings, and just took the photo. If I’d had a bit more time, and a different camera setting, maybe it would have come out cleaner.

It was one of those moments when I knew I had to take a photo. I set my sunglasses down to duck underwater and then, looking at the sunglasses, saw a photograph form. But I had trouble getting my camera to focus on the reflection instead of the fence through the sunglasses. I snapped several photos, this one was the first and it worked out best of any.

I don’t know what I wanted. Probably something cleaner, more of a focus on the reflection and less on the glasses themselves. But I still like how it turned out. Next time, it’ll be better.
